10 million Samsung Galaxy S sold in 7 months

Samsung has recently announced that the company has sold around 10 million units of its Samsung Galaxy S mobile phone and that too in a time period of less than 7 months since the launch of the device.

Samsung Galaxy S has become one of the hot favourite handsets among large number of people all over the globe due to its impressive list of features. The largest number of these handsets was sold in North America where the number stood around 4 million. The next in the line was Europe with 2.5 million units.

Samsung Galaxy S is an Android Powered handset that features 1GHz of Hummingbird processor. The phone comes with wide 4 inches of Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with 480 X 800 pixels of resolution support. Other features that comes packed in Galaxy S include 5MP camera, VGA front facing camera, FM radio, Music player, HD video recording,  up to 32GB of memory expansion, Bluetooth, WiFi,  access to social networking and many others. In India the handset is available for an approximate price of Rs. 28,000.

Samsung has recently made an announcement about the launch of its Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy 3 Ajax Limited Editions. Though there will be no changes in the specifications and features of the phone but these limited editions will come loaded with the Ajax gift boxes and will have the AJAX team application loaded in it.

The application of Ajax will be available for working on the Android, iPhone and Blackberry handsets from their application stores. Samsung Galaxy S is an Android Handset that comes with wide array of features.  There is 4 inches of super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen in the phone that provides colour support of up to 16M and offers resolution of 480 X 800 Pixels.  Additional features of this handset include Swype text input, 5MP camera, A GPS support, MP3 Player and many others.

Samsung Galaxy 3 is also an Android powered handset with 3.2 inches of TFT Capacitive touchscreen supporting 16M colours. Additional features of this phone include multi touch input method, 3.15 MP camera, FM Radio, Music player, Google Search and others.

Sale of 25 million smartphone expected by Samsung in 2010

The head of Samsung Mobile J.K Shin at the recent 2010 IFA Consumer electronics show in Germany stated that the company expects that they will be able to achieve sales of about 25 million Smartphone for the year 2010. According to him this sales target is much above the previous one which was expected to be around 18 million.

As per Shin, during the 3rd quarter, the company expects to get a double digit profit margin through its mobile operations though the 2nd quarter margin of the company was low due to the rates of the foreign exchange.

After Nokia, Samsung is the 2nd largest mobile phone manufacturer and the latest Galaxy S model has got to earn huge success to the company all over the globe. Samsung Galaxy S is getting great acceptance and the experts are also touting it as the competitor to the Apple iphone. It is expected by Samsung that they will be able to sell around 10 million units of this latest smartphone globally this year.

1 Million Samsung Galaxy S shipped in US

Samsung has recently made an announcement that it has shipped over 1 million of its Galaxy S device in US within the month of its launch. Samsung Galaxy S was available for sale in US since 15th of July this year. The handset was branded as Galaxy S by Samsung but it was known by different names on different carriers like Vibrant on T Mobile, Captivate on AT&T, Fascinate on Verizon and Epic 4G on Sprint.

Though the features and the specifications of all these different named devices are same but the Epic 4G comes with a slide out QWERTY Keyboard. The 1 million of shipment which is reported by Samsung only covers the Vibrant on T Mobile and Captivate on AT&T. The Fascinate and Epic 4G have to yet go on sale.

The major factor which has contributed in the success of the handset its relatively low price, availability on various carriers and extensive marketing strategy.

Samsung Galaxy S gets DivX certified

Samsung has recently made an announcement that their Galaxy S handset is now DivX certified for the HD video playback at 720p resolution. With this Samsung Galaxy S has become the first Android powered handset to be the DivX certified.

Now the users of Samsung Galaxy S mobile phone will be able to load variety of movies in their handset and can also enjoy it on 720p HD or in the normal standard definition. Moreover the users of Samsung Galaxy S can also connect their handsets directly to the other devices which are DivX certified like HDTV and can thus turn their mobile phones into an impressive mobile set up box.  Secure Playback of major Hollywood movies in the DivX format is also supported by the phone.

On this occasion, the CEO of DivX stated that “We’re pleased that Samsung recognizes the importance of the DivX brand in providing their consumers with a seamless, high-quality entertainment experience.”

Texting Speed World Record Broken by a British Woman

Melissa Thompson of Salford, England has recently claimed her name in the Guinness World Records for the fastest typing on a mobile phone. This 27 years of lady typed a complex sentence on a Samsung Galaxy S handset in just 25.94 seconds.

Earlier in March this year, Guinness has opened their big book of World Records for any individual to wish to claim that they are the fastest texter on touchscreen handsets. The first person who made his entry in this record was a man named Franklin Page who typed the sentence in 35.54 seconds using the Swype technology.

Melissa Thompson also used the Swype technology on Samsung Galaxy S handset and broke the record of Page by typing the same pre set sentence in just 25.94 seconds which is around 28% faster. The pre set sentence which is used for this record is “The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human.”

1million Galaxy S Smartphones to be shipped by Samsung

An executive with the South Korean Company recently stated that, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd is all set to ship its 1 million of confirmed orders for its Galaxy S Smartphone in the coming months. The executive of Samsung Mobile Communications, DJ Lee said that he hopes that Galaxy S which comes with a large and vibrant screen along with a speedy processor will help the company to capture the needed buzz.

Samsung has a control on more than one fifth of the overall global mobile phone market and it is just behind the leader, Nokia Corp.

Samsung aims to make strides in the premium segment which is dominated by Research In Motion’s Blackberry line and Apple Inc’s iPhone. As per Lee the share of smartphone market by Samsung is in the single digits and to change that, the Galaxy S will have to appeal business as well as retail customers.

Samsung Galaxy S features the fastest GPU among all Android handsets

If you think that Droid, Nexus One or HTC Evo 4G are the Android mobile phones with the fastest GPU then you are certainly wrong. The title of featuring the fastest GPU is bagged by the latest Samsung Android mobile called Galaxy S.

The Hummingbird A8 chip in Galaxy S is capable of processing 90 million triangles per second. In comparison to this DROID can process 7 million triangles per second and Nexus One can handle 22 million.

If we make comparisons with the non Android handsets then Apple iPhone 3GS is capable of handling 28 million triangles in a second. Thus we can state that Samsung Galaxy S has 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 chip which is 3 times fast as compared to 1GHz Snapdragon which powers EVO 4G and Nexus One.

The Samsung’s latest Android device boasts 36% of the video processing power as of a PS3 and adding to its wide array of features the Super AMOLED screen of this mobile phone is efficient in saving power and battery. Galaxy S thus seems to be an interesting model from Samsung.
