Firefox Mobile – Its present standing

March 25, 2010

Though Mozilla did not had any official news at CTIA 2010 in Las Vegas to share but the vice president of mobile , Jay Sullivan had something for the Firefox’s browser for mobiles.Mozilla is actively developing the Maemo/MeeGo platform for Nokia which is the host of the first Firefox Mobile 1.0.

The problem lies in the fact that Firefox is not available in its phone friendly form, extensions and others and it is only available on 2 Nokia devices including Nokia N900 and N810 Internet tablet.

Furthermore Mozilla has put skids for developing the Firefox for Windows mobile due to some of the decisions made by Microsoft. Thus till Microsoft will provide a native development kit( NDK) the work onWindows Firefox Mobile phones is flatly stopped.

If you are not a Window phone user and have patience then there is good news for you as well that Mozilla is also working on the version of Firefox for Android Phones. The various Firefox version of Mozilla are powered from the same Gecko engine, which clearly means that Firefox for Mac, Windows and mobile are created with similar ingredients.
