War between HTC versus Google’s Nexus One

May 15, 2010

Taiwan-based HTC, the Google’s Nexus One smartphone manufacturer, filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission, against Apple to ban their iPhone, iPad and iPod products import to US.

Jason Mackenzie, HTC’s vice president for North America, said, “We are taking this action against Apple to protect our intellectual property, our industry partners, and most importantly our customers that use HTC phones.” coming after Apple sued HTC in March, claims that the iPhone maker dishonored five of its patents concerning mobile devices. Analysts widely assumed that Apple’s actual target was its competitor Google, highlighting a rising tense friction between the two Silicon Valley giants. The ITC is a highly accepted medium for tech companies to resolve their disagreement. Though the regulatory body can’t award financial damages, it does have the authority to block products imported in the U.S market, which usually results in accelerated arrangement taking just 12 to 14 months rather than a lawsuit which can take many years to resolve the matter.
