MapQuest App Offers Free Voice Directions on Android

February 21, 2011

MapQuest has introduced an Android App which is likely to work as an alternative to Google Maps in the app marketplace. The MapQuest app
offers its users turn by turn voice directions service and this service is available free of cost. The MapQuest service has been introduced for India in the year 2010 in November. At that time, it was said that the users in India can look forward to the same features available to users in other countries.
Following this logic, it can be said that the users in India can look forward to turn by turn voice directions.

This interface is user-friendly and the maps have been created by making use of the data from Navteq. The maps from MapQuest take very little time to load and hence, users are less likely to come across any blank tiles. Users can also choose to cache the map tiles locally. However, the users should not expect Google Street View or an equivalent here. Moreover, MapQuest app also has to cover a lot of ground before competing with Google Maps or to stand out as a map service in the market.
