August 27, 2010

Google has recently made an announcement that it is integrating the facility of voice calling in Gmail which will allow the users to make calls all over the globe. Till now the users of Gmail account were able to talk to their loved ones through their computers with the help of speakers and microphone. But this latest service will allow the Gmail users to make as well as receive calls on computers as well as on phones. In order to avail the services, the users will have to install a voice and video software plug in.

By adding the telephony software along with its email application and then combining them together with the Google Voice, voicemail service and phone forwarding, Google will be able to offer this latest service.

It was stated by Google that the calls made to Canada and US will be free whereas calls to other countries will be charged at a very low rate of 2 cents per minute. The rates decided by Google are similar to that of Skype. Google has also stated that 1,000,000 calls have already been made through this service in the last 24 hours.
