July 2, 2010

The telecom technology and service provider, Ericsson has conducted the first trial of the Long Term Evolution Time Division duplex (TD-LTE or LTE TDD) in the country. Ericsson performed the first data call at its experience centre in Gurgaon using the 2.3 GHz band. Further trials will be done by the company using the broadband applications like high definition TV and video conferencing over the TD –LTE.

The head of Ericsson India, Gowton Achaibar stated that “The objective of the LTE trial is to showcase the potency of the network capability to industry players such as mobile operators, application developers, content providers and game developers, to help them create breakthrough products and services for the Indian market.”

TD-LTE is 4th generation technology which uses the TDD (Time Division Duplex) unpaired spectrum channels which combine the uplink and the downlink and allow the resources to adapt to the real time demand.

TD-LTE also provides the backward compatibility with 2G and 3G networks and it is capable of working even outside the LTE coverage area.
