Opera Software plans to double up its Indian user base

Opera Software of Norway, which is an internet browser firm has recently launched its operations in India and the company plans to double up its subscriber base in the mobile space from the present number of 5 million to 10 million in the coming 6 months.

The company is also looking forward to increase its subscriber base of PC based browser to about 10 million by the end of this year.

In order to achieve its targets, Opera Software has entered into joint collaboration with Indian mobile makers like Micromax and other host of Chinese operators which are selling their handset in India.

Opera Software India which is the Indian arm of Norwegian parent is also talks with Airtel, Uninor, Idea Cellular and Vodafone Essar. The chief executive officer of Opera Software, Lars Boilesen stated that “We have recently launched our 100% subsidiary in India. It is in talks with Airtel, Idea and Uninor for bundling Opera Mini—our mobile browser—with their products. The aim is to add 5 million additional customers in India by December 2010.”
