COAI denies the reports that states that telecom towers have health hazards

The GSM operator’s association, COAI has recently stated that there is no basis for the reports that claims that telecom towers have health hazards. The association further stated that these reports are wrongly aimed and are creating panic amongst the public.

The Cellular Operators association Of India mentioned in a statement that “In this regard, we want to first place on record that the above concerns have no basis in fact or finding (whether international or in India) and are wrongly aimed at creating a scare and panic amongst the public”

Over the last few weeks various media reports have alleged that the radiations which are emitted from the base stations are highly unsafe. These reports also cautioned the people regarding the possible medical consequences and health related problems which could result from the emissions from the cell phone tower.

On 31st May, the Delhi High Court has directed the MCD Commissioner and the Telecommunications secretary to set up a committee which will comprise of the technical and the medical experts who will examines the potential health hazards caused due to the radiation from the mobile towers. The court has also noted that there is no concrete finding which states the potential health hazards which are caused by the mobile towers radiation.
