May 24, 2010

The Executive Director of LiMo foundation, Morgan Gillis, has recently stated that the 3 new carriers will follow Vodafone in order to release devices that will be based on the LiMo platform by the end of this year.

Till now, Vodafone is the only European Operator which is offering LiMo based touch phones, which include the Samsung based 360M1 and 3601. Though there are around 60 other mobile phones which are based on the Mobile platform of Linux, which include models from Motorola (like MOTOROKR E8, U9, RAZR2 V8 and others) but these 2 are only the one with full touch interface.

By the end of this year three more operators from the group of France Telecom, Verizon or SK Telecom, Telefonica are expected to launch their devices which will be powered by LiMo OS.

As per Morgan Gilles there will be only 5 OS that will be considered in the battle which will include LiMo, Android, Windows, Apple’s iPhone OS and revived Symbian.
