“Bill Shock” experienced by 30 million Americans after seeing their mobile phone bills

A study has been released recently by The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) which states that a “bill shock” has been experienced by 30 million Americans after having a look at their monthly mobile phone bills. The “Bill Shock” here means having a look at an unexpected amount of increase in the bill even if no changes are made by the subscriber in their plan.

A survey was conducted by Princeton Research Associates for FCC on 3000 people out of whom 2400 had a mobile phone. Out of these 2400 people, around 17% of them stated that they have experienced “bill shock” at least once in the last year. It been stated by FCC that 17% of all the mobile phone users in US results to 30 million Americans who have experienced an unexpected increase in their bill amount.

84% of the people, who experienced the increase, stated that they were not warned by their carrier at all that they were on the verge of going beyond some of the portion of their plan whether it is data, minutes or bandwidth. It was stated by 35% people that their bill was increased by $50 whereas 23% stated that amount was $100 or even higher.
