High definition (HD) voice calling would be introduced in the UK before the end of 2010 as announced by Orange. Once this happens, crackly phone calls would be considered something of past.

Tom Alexander, CEO, of Orange UK says that “HD voice really does inject a level of innovation into mobile phone calls. Once people have tried it, they won’t want to go back. It seems like a worthwhile introduction from the soon-to-be largest mobile operator in the UK, but whether the feature will gain traction with the public is questionable; we’re also a little skeptical at how truly “innovative” being able to hear the person on the end of the line actually is”

As the technology has already been successfully trialed in Moldova, it is all ready to be rolled out. It leaves us with a couple of questions, will the public be asked to pay? Will the public be ready to pay?

Getting an HD-calling capable handset makes it sound like a bit of work to do to get your hands on Orange’s “crystal clear” calls. Never mind, Orange is optimistic about giving their first phone this year.
