Chinese mobile phones in India
January 9, 2010
In India a considerable amount of market share (of around 15 %) is owned by the Chinese mobiles. The Chinese mobiles market is growing at a faster rate in India. They are cheaper when compared to other mobiles in market.
The known fact is that these mobile phones are a copy of trusted brands like the Nokia and other companies. The functionality and the look may be the same but the quality of these phones is not up to the mark. Some of the phones did not even have the IMEI (International mobile equipment Identity) number before.
Recently government had announced that the mobiles which do not have the IMEI number will not be accepted. In a bid to enhance the security of the country this step was taken by the government of India. As India is facing a huge threat from the terrorists, mobile phones without the IMEI number will make their problems worse.
The Chinese mobiles are generally smuggled and the government has given orders to crackdown the phones from china without the IMEI number because tracking SIM cards becomes difficult due to non availability of IMEI number. About 30 million connections will be affected by the ban imposed by the government. Thus it will be a wise decision to think about mobiles which are not smuggled to avoid difficulties in future.
