Universal Mobile-phone Charger Expected to Hit Market Soon
December 31, 2010
Do you keep on asking everyone at office for a mobile-phone charger
that will fit your handset for charging your mobile? Then there is no
need for you to worry at all as the European Union has plans to
introduce a global common mobile-phone charger soon. Harmonized
standards for a common charger have been recently released by the
European Standardization bodies.
The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and the
European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) have
released the standards for interoperability which are required for
producing data-enabled mobile phones which will be compatible with a
new common charger. The compatibility will be based on Micro-USB
connectors. Electro-magnetic emissions as well as safety risks have
been taken into consideration by the new standards and it has also
been ensured that common chargers have adequate immunity to any type
of external interference.
According to the European Commission, the first common chargers as
well as mobile phones compatible with the new standards are expected
to hit the market in early 2011.
